Power Outage Emergency
Mike Ritter recalls one stormy night when his building shook with thunder. He received a call from a customer whose power had gone out. She was more than a little shaken and couldn’t see to dial out; her oxygen tank was now running on batteries and she didn’t know how long it would last.
Mike assured her that she would be okay and immediately contacted her family list and the local power company to notify them of the outage. He knew it was important to get the details of the outage to provide information to his customer and her family. Although this wasn’t a life or death situation, Mike went above and beyond his duty to get the power outage information so this family could plan accordingly. Our customer and her family were very appreciative.
A Life Saving Christmas Gift
Angel McMore bought her grandmother an alarm system for Christmas. While in her backyard, her grandmother fell and could not stand up. Using the alarm device, her grandma alerted the company who called Angel’s uncle, who quickly came to her grandmother’s rescue. Angel’s grandmother said the alarm system “was the best Christmas present” she could have received!
“It doesn’t get any more personal that that,” said Angel. “I am always aware of the fact that I’m helping someone’s grandma or grandpa, mom or dad. Sometimes we get false alarms, but that’s okay. We are in the life safety business and we know it takes a special person to do what we do. Everyone here at SafeAtHome Alert is a caring individual who can quickly react to any situation and remain in touch with the customer and in contact with family and local emergency teams. We go beyond what we’re expected to do. This isn’t a job…this is somebody’s life and they are depending on us to come through in their time of need!”

We Don’t Tolerate Negligent Behavior
Andrea Duvall recalls one incident where a caretaker was negligent and belligerent during a critical situation with a customer who was bedridden and needed assistance. Even though there was a caregiver was in the home, he wouldn’t help the customer. The customer connected to SafeAtHome customer care specialist, Andrea Duvall. Andrea notified the local paramedics who came to help her customer, but also placed a call to her customer’s daughter to talk about the incident and the inconsiderate caregiver.
The daughter was grateful for this information that probably would have gone unnoticed if Andrea would not have provided details of a recorded conversation. “It’s these type of situations, that our specialists are trained to pick up on,” shared Andrea.
Allison and Margeret’s Story
Alison is a 48 year old marketing professional who spends a lot of quality time with her 82 year old mother, Margaret. They like to take overnight bus trips. For the last 4 years, Margaret has lived at home, alone and independently, since her husband died of Alzheimer’s disease. Margaret is active in her church, plays cards with friends, is part of the neighborhood crime watch, and likes to travel. After returning home from a recent bus trip, Alison spent the night at her mother’s home. Margaret’s bowels were not working well, so she took an overnight laxative, hoping to relieve her digestive tract.
At 2:30 am, Alison heard a THUMP and was startled from sleep, to find her mother passed out and unconscious on the bathroom floor. Questions raced through Alison’s mind. Was her mother breathing? How could this event have happened after such an enjoyable trip? Thank GOD she was spending the night; what if Margaret, her beloved mother, had been alone?
As panic struck, 911 was called, paramedics arrived, vitals were checked and Margaret, although dazed, was pronounced “okay” by the medic. He described Margaret’s “passing out in the bathroom” as a common medical issue among the elderly that Allison had never heard of; the constriction of the “Vegus Nerve” in the brain. This occurs when we put extra pressure on our bowel’s causing restriction in the blood vessel and cutting oxygen off to the brain. A worried Alison thanked the medic and asked, “What can she do to ensure Margaret’s safety living alone.” The medic replied, “Develop a well-being plan and get a medical alert device. It’s a great tool for peace of mind for both you and your mom!”
We Care About You and Your Pet
“My mom loves her dog King. When we told her about the Protect Your Pet Program, that sold her on the SafeAtHome Alert. My mom was in some denial about her capabilities and resisted the idea of a medical alert. The pet program gave her just the nudge to agree to the system. Shortly after getting the system she took a fall–the outcome was excellent thanks to SafeAtHome Alert. We feel huge relief that Mom is protected by SafeAtHome–now Mom is advocating the system to other relatives and friends!” — Richard Ochs, New Freedom, PA
Passion for People
Stephanie has worked for SafeAtHome Alert for over a year. She loves the company and says, “It’s one big family and very close!” She wants to be a radiologist one day and knows that her experience here has heightened her passion for helping people.
Stephanie’s very independent grandmother chose to purchase an alarm system and recently had to use it when she experienced a fall in her bathroom. The emergency alarm tone (a signal of distress) was loud enough to wake up her sleeping uncle to provide assistance and help. Stephanie is grateful that her grandma made a decision to place an alarm system in her home. She feels her grandmother’s legs are becoming weak and feels comforted to know that she is connected to her company as a life-line.
“One of the most important documents we have about our customers is the family call list,” Stephanie said. “I am very proud to be a part of this team of operators who serve elderly customers, like my grandmother. My family knows that her choice to have a SafeAtHome Alert system installed was a blessing to all of us and will help her live a comfortable life in her home.”
